Collages:
As 2021 progressed, my Studio Art class in high school had a collage unit. I had minimal experience with collaging prior to the lesson, but it inspired me to take what I learned and transfer it to digital paints and patterns.
I started my process with a base image, which I would then choose a color scheme for, and from there decide to embellish with details of specific patterns, other images, or cropped pieces of the base image.
Much like the collages I made with magazines, I tried to make the cut out images sharp, and squarish, as well as something that wouldn't overwhelm the full piece, but create a whole new side to it.
Lines defining the silhouette of the person or part of the body was always the last part of the piece, because it gave shape to the blobs of patterns. Background colors and designs were chosen purely based off of what made the focal point pop out the most. (The Kurt Cobain piece was originally going to be an acrylic piece on canvas, which was ultimately scrapped and painted over in place of a different piece.)
